• The first step in applying to the CLASS PDS Teacher Education Program is to meet with an advisor. You can schedule this meeting by calling 753-6618. This will provide you an opportunity to learn more about the program as well as the majors that are available at USM:L/A.

• Once you have met with an advisor and have decided to apply to the CLASS program, you need to complete two applications:

  • USM undergraduate application

  • CLASS PDS Application

• You should also complete your financial aid paperwork. Information on financial aid can be found by clicking here.

• Once you have been accepted to USM, you will be contacted by the CLASS program to schedule an interview. This interview will be to determine your acceptance in the CLASS program. Your USM admission decision will not be impacted by any decision regarding your acceptance to CLASS. If you are not accepted to CLASS, you will still continue to be a USM student.

• The interview for the CLASS program will last approximately one hour. During this time you will have the opportunity to ask questions of the program faculty, and they will in turn ask you questions regarding your decision to become a teacher. You will be notified in writing within 2 weeks following the interview whether or not you have been accepted to the program.

Most students who are accepted to the program will begin their teacher education coursework and field experiences in the fall semester. Some students, depending on previous college work and experiences, may be able to start the program during the spring semester. You will have a pretty good idea of when you will be able to start the program, following your meeting with the advisor.
