SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
FOR USM STUDENTS
 

The George J. Mitchell Peace Scholarship

The George J. Mitchell Peace Scholarship is an annual exchange and scholarship to Ireland for students from the Maine Community College System and the University of Maine System. The purpose of the scholarship is to create opportunities for the exchange of college students between Ireland and the State of Maine.

The Scholarship

The Maine Community College System (MCCS) and University of Maine System (UMS) will each award annually either one full-year scholarship or two one-semester scholarships. Each scholarship from the MCCS and UMS will provide the opportunity for a student to study full-time at a university or institute of technology in Ireland. The scholarship includes tuition and fees, books, room and board, and living expense and travel stipends. The current exchange site for University of Maine system students is the University College Cork in Ireland.

The application deadline for 2009-10 is February 9, 2009.

Applications are available at the USM Office of International Programs in 101 Payson Smith or on line at the George J. Micthell Peace Scholarship Website.

USM's Japanese Culture and Language Program

  • JAPAN!!  In cooperation with Rissho University in Japan, USM offers a unique opportunity for students to experience Japan firsthand. This 3 week summer program is partially funded by USM and allows participants to complete an independent study, as well as participate in a structured program of classes in various aspects of Japanese life and culture.

    Don't forget you also need to print out an Independent Study Approval form that must be submitted in addition to the application.
