HOUSING: University of Maine Law students may live on campus. However, we often find that Law students prefer to live off campus and that the Portland area is more convenient. The information listed below should help you with your decision.

ON CAMPUS HOUSING:

All USM residence Halls are based in Gorham. (Approximately 30-40 mintues from Portland by car.)

triangle If you are going to live on campus we recommend that you live in Philippi Hall or the New Hall.

To learn more about the residence halls and see current room and board rates visit the
     Residence Life Homepage
Note that room and board rates for 2009-10 will not be finalized until July 09.

If you live on campus please note that meal service is not offered during vacation weeks. We     recommend that you plan to spend $125 per week for meals  during those times.
Check out the 2009-10 academic calendar

triangle Limited student parking is available on the Gorham Campus if you are bringing a car. You will need to     obtain a permit after your arrival on campus.

OFF CAMPUS HOUSING:

triangle If you plan to live off campus we recommend that you plan to arrive early in order to locate an
apartment. USM and the School of Law do not facilitate off campus placements for students.

triangle Possible Option: Bayside Village Student Housing This is not a University run housing option - it is an
independently run student complex which means we have no say over room-mate disputes, noise
    issues, etc.

triangle You can check rentals online via our local newspaper: the Portland Press Herald

triangleUSM Commuter Student Services also keeps a listing of Off Campus Housing

TEMPORARY HOUSING:

If you do plan to search for off-campus housing you should arrange for temporary housing prior to your arrival in Portland. Suggestions include:

triangle The Inn at St. John Bed and Breakfast in Portland

triangle The Eastland Park Hotel in Portland

triangle Motel 6 in Westbrook - this is not in walking distance, but you can reach the     Portland campus by bus
