Image Bank

Please make sure you have carefully read the Web Publishing Policies and Template Guidelines before proceeding.

As stated in the template guidelines, there are five main Web page templates available for those who create and manage University Web pages. The Image Bank was created to give Web site maintainers the flexibility to select images already produced appropriately to appear on their pages using these templates. These images are provided solely for the use of USM faculty and staff.

Images should be downloaded from your browser window to your local hard drive or disc, and uploaded to your departmental Web folder along with any newly created files that use them. Instructions on downloading the images from your browser window are provided below. Once you have downloaded an image do not re-save the file as a jpeg because this will reduce the quality of the image.

Underneath each image is the suggested ALT text to use when you include the image in your page. Every image and graphic that you include in your pages, whether from the Image Bank or not, should include ALT text - see template guidelines.

You may select from images that have been produced to fit in two key areas in the templates: in the Far Left Image Column (three of the five templates have a Far Left Image Column), and in the Far Right Image Column (for those who use the Four Column Template).

Images should only be used in the columns they were designed for. If you would like to use your own images in your own sizes and styles, then include them in the Main Content Column of the templates. If you would like to use your own images in either the Far Left Image Column or the Far Right Image Column, contact webmaster@usm.maine.edu and your images will be produced for you to fit in the templates.

Images for use in the Far Right Image Column have been categorized to make browsing easier. Some images may appear in more than one category. The Image Bank will continually be updated so check back periodically.
