ASSISTANT PROFESSOR ART EDUCATION #9904
The University of Southern Maine, Department of Art invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning in the fall of 2010.
Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include coordinating the K-12 art education certification track program, teaching undergraduate art education courses (one lecture, one seminar, one supervision of student teachers) each semester, and placing student teachers. The appointee will have additional responsibilities including research/publications/creative work, committee work, curriculum development, service to the university and community (such as community outreach programs), participation with art ed. professional organizations, art education advocacy with state and local governmental agencies and non-governmental organizations, and professional activities in art education that are consistent with departmental expectations.
Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Art Education (will consider ABD with degree completed by August 31, 2010); at least three years experience as a certified art teacher within K-12 grade span; teaching experience in art education at the college level; and evidence of scholarly and professional activities.
The University of Southern Maine's Department of Art is a fully accredited program with degrees in studio, art history, art education, and art and entrepreneurial studies along with multiple studio areas. The Department is in the historic village of Gorham located 20 minutes from Portland, 2 hours from Boston and 5 hours from NYC and Montreal. Located on Casco Bay, Portland is the state’s largest city and cultural center. It has dozens of art galleries and exhibition spaces including the Portland Museum of Art, Space Gallery, and the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. It also boosts a rich array of restaurants, theaters, and music venues. Portland is known as one of the nation's best small cities and is recognized for creative sector entrepreneurship and its strong community of artists.
