The mailroom operator is responsible for picking up and delivering all incoming and outgoing U.S. Postal Service mail to the post office. The operator also picks up inter-campus mail from departments on the appropriate campus. Postal Service mail and packages, inter-campus mail and packages as well as material from commercial carriers such as U.P.S., Federal Express, and common carriers must be sorted and distributed properly. This position is also responsible for passing all outgoing U.S.P.S. mail through the computerized postage system to assure accuracy and proper accounting. A considerable amount of mail and packagers moves through the U.S.M. mail system, all of which must be delivered quickly and accurately.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma inclusive of specific training in mailroom procedures. Valid driver’s license that complies with University of Maine system standards. Ability to lift and move cases of paper, sacks of mail and packages weighing 75 pounds on a regular basis. Preferred: two years experience in an in house mail processing service. Experience with computerized mail processing system.
