CALL FOR PAPERS

 

The University of Southern Maine invites proposals for papers and panel sessions for its conference, "Commemorating Frances Perkins: Legacies of the New Deal in Maine and the Nation" to be held on March 17-18, 2006 in Portland Maine. Perkins, secretary of labor under FDR, was a pioneer in social policy and women’s political leadership. This is a multidisciplinary conference, and proposals are encouraged from all fields, especially history, labor studies, economics, women’s studies, political science, cultural studies, and public policy. Papers may focus on, but are not restricted to, women’s political leadership, women’s work, New Deal culture, labor, social and economic policy, Social Security, the Wagner Act, activism, education, and student movements. Proposals should include a one page (200 word) abstract and a one page c.v. Individual paper proposals as well as group sessions and panel proposals will be accepted.
