JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS

The Department of Residential Life and Resident Education is seeking a Program Manager (similar to a Graduate Assistant) for the 2008-2009 academic year. 
The position reports to the Coordinator of Co-Curricular Development and works directly with our First Year Integration (FYI) program and our Special Interest Housing Floors (SIH).  
We have two special interest housing floors in Dickey Wood Hall (Outdoor Experience and Fitness Wellness). This position will assist the RA's for these floors in providing quality programs and activities that fit the theme of the floors.  First Year Integration (FYI) is a program designed to give first year students an edge in the college experience. Students live together on the FYI floor, make connections with faculty and staff, learn strategies for adjusting to college academics, as well as attend a variety of social events.
Key Functions (% Priority Weight):
Develops social networks within the learning community (25%)
1.All the community member’s names are known by the first week in October. 2.New students are welcomed to the community throughout the year. 3.At least 10 assets (skills or talents students have) in the learning community are identified by the 2nd week of October. 4.At least 10 learning experiences/activities desired by the students are known by October. 5.Members of the community are regularly recognized for their involvement and achievements. 6.Informal exit interviews are conducted with members leaving the community with in a week of their departure. 
Supervises the Programming Assistants (25%)
1.Weekly one on one supervision meetings held throughout the
year. 2.Position training conducted in August and January as well as when new staff start. 3.Performance reviews of staff conducted twice a year and kept on file. 4.Recruitment conducted in conjunction with the Department’s staff selection process or when vacancies occur. 
Hosts learning community meetings twice a month (15%)
1.Meetings are organized with the Resident Assistants, Resident Director and Programming Assistant. 2.The meetings are advertised at least a week in advance and to the whole community. 3.Community building and program planning are conducted at the meetings.
Plans and implements three programs a semester for the learning communities (15%)
1.Educational goals of the community are assessed and addressed with programs. 2.Programs are advertised at least a week in advance and to the whole community. 3.Advertisements are creative, dynamic, and clear. 4.Program documentation is completed within a week of the event. 
Markets the learning communities to both current and new students (10%)
1.Monthly newsletters are created and distributed. 2.Learning communities are represented at university recruitment events. 3.Recruitment and marketing efforts are collaborated with the Department. 4.Five hours a week of office hours are held to maintain visibility with students. 
Tracks programming and expenses for the learning communities(10%)
1.Attendance sheets are collected and recorded after events. 2.Program reports are collected from staff and filed with in a week of a program. 3.Receipts from expenditures are collected and filed with the Coordinator. 4.The program’s budget is kept up to date and expenditures are reasonable. 
Supervision Received:
Receives supervision from the Coordinator of Co-Curricular Development 1.Weekly one on one supervision meetings are held with Coordinator. 2.Bi-weekly staff meetings are held for collaboration between Learning Communities. 3.A performance evaluation will be conducted by the Coordinator each semester.

Works collaboratively with faculty and staff to achieve the goals of the Department of Residential Life and Resident Education. 6. Possess self motivation and the able to work autonomously as well as with a team. 7. Communicates verbally and in writing in a manner that is clear, effective, and timely. 
This is a 9 month position (August 18th-May 18th) and approximately 20 hours a week. Compensation is housing in an on campus suite , a meal plan for use when the dining hall is open and your choice of a stipend or tuition waiver in the total of $4,000 for the year, student is responsible for all student and lab fees.
