Do bones fascinate you? Did you know that you can get a job studying, fixing, or looking for bones when you grow up? You can! Here is a list of some really cool jobs that may be in your future!

Archaeologist

An archaeologist studies past cultures.  They do this by locating, excavating and analyzing material remains and bones.  They look for clues to how past societies lived, worked, and played.

Forensic Anthropologist

A forensic anthropologist is a person who studies the human skeleton in a medicolegal context.  In other words, he or she is someone who studies human bones for legal purposes, usually in order to help police solve crimes by determining how a person died and their identity, or who the bones belonged to.

Forensic Facial Reconstructionist

This unique job requires an anthropologist to use their artistic abilities to reconstruct a deceased (dead) person's facial features by using only the skull.  This work has helped identify many missing persons.

Paleopathologist

Like an archaeologist or forensic anthropologist, a paleopathologist studies ancient human bones in order to diagnose bone related diseases.  This helps us understand what life was like for many ancient peoples.

Biological Anthropologist

Also called a physical anthropologist, a biological anthropologist is someone who studies humans as biological organisms.  This means they study human patterns of living, dying, evolution, and variability of specimens.

Zooarchaeologist

This type of archaeologist studies faunal (animal) remains.  This means the bones of animals found in archaeological sites are examined and can provide valuable information about what people used to eat.

Radiologist

A radiologist is also called an x-ray technician.  This person takes special pictures of your bones using an x-ray machine.  These pictures allow doctors to see your bones without surgery.

Orthopedic Surgeon

An orthopedic surgeon is a special kind of doctor who helps reconstruct your skeletal frame.  Some people are born with bone deformities and this kind of doctor can often help correct misshapen bones.
