Advising
Good advising is key to a timely degree and helps you choose courses
that both fulfill your requirements and meet your interests. Faculty advisors
in the department have a sense of the frequency of course offerings and the best
sequencing for student growth. Advisors are assigned once you declare the major
of geography-anthropology. You can choose a faculty member or we can assign an
advisor for you. Please contact Maggie at 780-5321 to find out who
your advisor is or to change advisors. See
CAS Advising for general information
about the advising process in the College of Arts and Sciences.
GYA Notes for Spring 2007
Advance Registration: (For degree candidates only)
1. As soon
as the course schedule (tabloid) is available, make an
appointment with your advisor.
This is
crucial!
2. When
meeting with your advisor, make sure you are given a
Registration Authorization Number (RAN). This number is required
for you to be able to register using the Interactive Voice
Response System (IVR) or (DSIS), or it can be used instead of an
advisor's signature if you prefer to register in person. Before
you leave your meeting, make sure you have your RAN or the
signature of your advisor on a worksheet.
If you are going to register using the IVR system, dial (207)
780-5800. Please listen to the prompts very carefully. When you
are done selecting your courses, make sure to play back your
schedule. IVR is available for registration starting at midnight
on the day you become eligible to register. No payment
arrangements are required during advance registration; however,
your registration may be blocked
if a
financial hold has been placed on your account by the Business
Office. You
will receive a bill from the Student Billing Office about six
weeks before the semester begins.
Or
If you are going to register in person, bring either a
signed worksheet or your RAN number to the Registrar's Office in
Gorham, the Enrollment Services Center in Portland,
Lewiston/Auburn College or any of the University Colleges.
Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
