Summer 2013 ESOL Intensive Program
The IELP summer courses are designed for international students who may be attending American universities in the fall or any other students 17-and-older who want to improve their English.
All classes are held on the USM Portland campus. Students reside in a residence hall located in the heart of downtown Portland which provides easy access to the public bus system, restaurants, shops and the waterfront.
DATE: July 22nd through August 23rd, 2013 (Five week total)
Location: University of Sothern Maine, Portland, Maine, USA
Residence Hall: 15 Shepley Street, Portland Maine
Program Content: English Language Courses:
9:00-12:00 noon, Monday – Friday (5 days a week)
Reading, Writing and Vocabulary In this class students will gain a stronger foundation in understanding & using English correctly. The primary focus of this class is on building skills for academic study, particularly focusing on critical reading, academic writing and expansion of vocabulary. All classes are small and interactive.
1:30 – 3:00 pm Monday-Thursday (4 days a week)
Listening and Speaking
This highly communicative class will focus on oral production, listening comprehension, colloquial language and idiom. Students will interact with native English speakers and make classroom presentations on topics of interest.
