Understanding Roles

The PeopleSoft Financials module is scheduled to go-live on July 5, 2005. To prepare for this major change in the way we work with financials at USM, employees whose responsibilities require an understanding of a variety of accounting procedures will be expected to participate in training. The amount of training necessary will be dependent on the job responsibilities of each employee.

This page is designed to provide a brief description of commonly assigned employee roles in the Financials Module, a list of courses of study required to prepare employees for each role, and an approximate time commitment for each course of study.

The first financials class, How Business Will Change at UMS, will provide a more detailed introduction to PeopleSoft Financials. Open sessions began on September 15, 2004

What is a Role?

Depending on job responsibilities, different users can be assigned the same and/or a different number of roles. An Accounting Supervisor might be assigned the roles of Journal Entry Online, General Ledger (GL) Inquiry and e-marketplace. General Ledger Inquiry, Requisition Approval and Journal Entry Approval could be roles assigned to a Departmental Director.
