Ivan G. Most

Ivan MostDr. Ivan G. Most is Adjunct Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering. At USM, he has taught statics, strength of materials, and thermodynamics. He now teaches a course in thermal systems. He has a long history with the School of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology, having been the director of the Production Technology Center, in which capacity he worked to connect faculty and others to help companies solve problems as well as to improve products and processes.

Dr. Most received the B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; the M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; and the Doctor of Science in Work Environment Policy from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

Dr. Most worked at General Electric and at Hague International and, from 1980 to 1988 was a principal consultant at EnerGroup, Inc. where he managed diverse waste fuel utilization and energy conversion projects. He was also project manager on business development, waste utilization, energy conservation, and environmental permitting initiatives.

In addition to teaching at USM, he is Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of New England, where he teaches web-based courses for the Master in Public Health Program. His full-time job is for his own company, Strategic Occupational Health Management. He provides facilitation and training services for industrial clients in team development. He trains consultants in principles of health and safety site surveillance.

Dr. Most is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the National Occupational Research Agenda, The Maine Occupational Research Agenda, the Maine Indoor Air Quality Council, the town of Old Orchard Planning Board, and is an adjunct scientist in the University of Southern Maine Center for Environmental Toxicology. He has also served on the town of Cape Elizabeth Planning Board and several other professional boards and committees.

Ivan resides in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with his wife Susan, a writer and artist. He has three children: an engineer, a public relations professional and a utility company executive.
