Professional Experience:
After working at Johns Hopkins Hospital for three years, Dr. Hodgkin returned to Maine where he worked in the Research Department of the Maine Medical Center. From there he moved to the University of Southern Maine as a research scientist in the Biomedical Research Institute, later becoming Associate Director, then Director of the Institute. Research areas included biological effects of electricity, electrocardiology, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Following three years as Director of Graduate Engineering extended from the University of Maine to the University of Southern Maine, Dr. Hodgkin became founding Dean of the School of Applied Science in 1985, a position he held until 1999. From 1999 to 2006, he combined teaching electrical engineering with working to develop research in the sciences and applied sciences at the University of Southern Maine as Director of the Bioscience Research Institute and Associate Director of Research Initiatives. He is presently Professor of Electrical Engineering.
