Professional Experience:
Julie's first electrical engineering job was as an estimator for an electrical contractor in her hometown of Chattanooga, TN. That began in 1975 (more than 30 years ago!) The highlight of that summer was being site manager on the installation of an emergency power system for Chattanooga's vintage theater The Tivoli. Ever since then, she's been involved in engineering power systems--in hardware, software and wetware (6 years in university administration).

Julie left industry in 1991 to join the engineering faculty at the University of Southern Maine. In addition to teaching, she has worked on national grants funded by the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Education.
Since the 2000-2001 academic year, she has held several administrative positions, most recently the founding director of USM Research Initiatives.
