Students who successfully complete the course can write essays which:

 

are at least 4.5 pages long.

 

are organized around a thesis or project, and represent the student writer’s point of view.

 

go beyond summary to engage analytically with academic readings of some length (at least 15 pages).

 

use a citation format (MLA, Chicago, or APA).

 

make interpretive connections between separate readings.

 

use standard written English.

 

employ a variety of sentence structures.

 

 

 

Students who successfully complete the course are aware of and can explain:

 

their own processes of prewriting, drafting, revising and editing.

 

their own patterns of syntax and common errors.
