Barbara C. Jandebeur Memorial Scholarship

 

The Barbara C. Jandebeur Memorial Scholarship is a small scholarship administered by the English department.

 

This scholarship was established by Barry S. Jandebeur in memory of his mother, who died on December 23, 1995, which is the date Mr. Jandebeur received his B.A. in English from USM. The amount of the scholarship varies with each academic year. Awards will be applied to a student’s account.

 

The following are the initial criteria of eligibility for the Barbara C. Jandebeur Memorial Scholarship:

 

Ø     English major

Ø     junior or senior status*

Ø     minimum 3.25 GPA

Ø     you intend to pursue a career in English

 

*Please note: Students applying to graduate before the fall semester of the academic year will not be eligible for monetary awards.

 

Eligible candidates are invited to remain in the pool confirming eligibility by e-mailing Rosanna McCoy, Administrative Assistant II, at rmccoy@usm.maine.edu. The e-mail must confirm the following information:

 

1)     you will be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at USM in the upcoming Fall semester

and

 

2) a brief  (in 3-4 sentences) statement confirming you intend to pursue post-baccalaureate study "in the field of English."

 

 

Responses must be received by e-mail no less than one week after eligible students have been contacted – usually the last week in February.

 

The responses from the eligible candidates will be collected and given to the Student Affairs committee for evaluation. The award recipient will be selected by a committee of full-time faculty who will read and evaluate the applications using a ballot system.
