USM: Severe Weather

To find out if the University is closed or if classes are canceled:

• Call the U.S.M. (Portland/Gorham) Storm/Weather Line at: (207) 780-4800
• Call the U.S.M. (Lewiston/Auburn College) Storm/Weather Line at: (207) 753-6595

If caught in a hurricane, or high winds:

• Seek shelter safely indoors, preferably in basement or center of structure;
• Move away from windows, mirrors, and other glass;
• After the immediate effects of the weather have subsided, call the U.S.M. Police Department at 780-5211 and state your name, location, and the area involved.

In the event of a pending or actual lightning storm, persons present may be asked to immediately evacuate athletic fields or other campus facilities by the Athletics Department or U.S.M. Police Department.
