U.S.M. All Hazards Response Plan
An emergency can occur at any time, suddenly and without warning. Proper planning is essential to minimize the impact of any emergency on university operations and facilities. The All Hazards Response Plan (AHRP) is designed to provide such planning by established policies, procedures and responsibilities that are necessary to effectively respond to an emergency.
All components of the AHRP are designed to protect lives and property through the effective use of university and community resources. Because an emergency may be sudden and without warning, the plan components are designed to be flexible in order to accommodate most contingencies.
The objectives of the All Hazards Response Plan are to:
- Protect the lives, safety and health of University students, faculty, staff and visitors by providing a management tool that addresses preparedness, response, notification and recovery from an emergency incident
- Protect university facilities, property and equipment from loss in the event of an emergency
- Provide a system for the restoration of university facilities, functions and services that may be damaged or interrupted due to an emergency
More details about the USM All Hazards Response Plan will be released on this site as they become available.
USMAlert
For Fall, 2008, we are implementing "USMAlert" so that the university community is notified as soon as possible in the event of an emergency. The system uses text messaging to inform students, faculty and staff of an emergency situation, including weather-related emergencies. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU MUST REGISTER FOR THIS SERVICE IN ORDER TO RECEIVE AN ALERT.
Please register now by going to http://usm.maine.edu/usmalert/. There is no charge.
This voluntary service is designed to provide a first alert about campus emergencies. In the event of an emergency, additional information will be available through some combination of the following: the USM Emergency (Storm) Line at 780-4800; the USM Web site; e-mails; and the local media.
You only have to register one time. Once you have a USM Alert account, you may choose to opt in or opt out at any time. The information you provide will only be used for USM Alert and will not be shared. Any questions about this service should be addressed to Tim Hall, USM Police Communications Supervisor at USM Police, 780-5211.
