Adjusting Our Teaching Styles to the Learning Styles of Our Students
Dr. L. Lee Knefelkamp Professor of Psychology & Education Columbia University, Teachers College. How can pedagogy be diversified to improve connections with the range of learner characteristics and cultural ways of knowing? How can faculty hone their “listening to understand” skills and develop as complex thinkers for interactions with people from different backgrounds? How does the “multicultural self” theory relate to teaching? How do students encounter differences of ideas, people, and cultures? Teach-In for Peace and Action
Please come to a planning meeting on Monday, January 29th at 2:15 in the upstairs lounge at USM-LA. A group of USM faculty, staff and students, along with community members and organizations, is joining together with Peace Action Maine to organize a Teach-In for Peace and Action, which we have tentatively scheduled for March 22nd, 12-5 pm to be held at USM’s L-A College Campus. Your help is needed in organizing! We are hoping to have a series of panels discussing issues around the war in Iraq, such as the disproportionate impact on the poor, as well as the constitutional, political, social, economic, and moral costs of the war. However, it is our hope that the focus of the event will be on concerted, constructive action toward peace. Please respond to the address below if you can attend the planning meeting, if you are interested in being involved but unable to make it on Monday, or if you have ideas about the March 22nd event. Also, please feel free to pass this notice along to others you think may be interested.
