CTEL Google

Google Apps wide assortment of tools bring together essential services to help your business, school, group or family communicate and collaborate more effectively. These services are powerful, easy to set up, require no maintenance and you can get them for FREE.

Most University faculty and staff, and ALL students have access to Google through their UMS account.  If you find that you cannot login to your UMS Gmail account, then you will need to migrate your account in order to access the tools.

Please follow the migration process by downloading the Migration handout.  Once migration is complete, you will need to re-forward your UMaine Gmail to USM Groupwise.

Below you will find documentation links for the most common Google products used within the UMaine system:

Google Docs/Drive (Maine System specific)

Google Sites (Maine System specific)

Google Mail (Google guide)

Google Calendar (Google guide)

Google+ (Google guide) - Google's new social media network is rapidly growing and changing. Creating individual training materials and tutorials will be problematic and hard to keep current.  It is recommended you use Google's help site that is consistently updated and relevant.  Google+ is available through the UMaine system by clicking on the +You from Google ribbon at the top of any Google/UMS page.

Google Hangout - A Google Hangout is a virtual meeting space available from either Google Chat in Mail or through Google+.  Hangouts are incredibly easy to use with a wide array of apps for use, like screensharing and white boards.  You also have the ability to record a Hangout using the Hangouts on Air option which streams the Hangout to your linked YouTube channel (after verification).  These recordings are then accessed through YouTube for playback later.  The following is a Google Hangout on Air (one that was recorded): http://youtu.be/vW1PCFCkfJ0

YouTube (Google guide) - YouTube is another example of an ever changing Google product.  As integration with various services becomes greater, providing documentation for the product does as well.  Please use Google's help site for questions, such as creating a channel, how to upload a video, acceptable video formats and other topics.  Anyone with a UMaine ID can access and create a channel on the service by choosing YouTube from the 'More' selection on the Google ribbon.
