USM Ceremony Celebrates Stantec Computer-Aided Design Lab

Representatives of Stantec and the University of Southern Maine gathered recently in USM’s John Mitchell Center, Gorham, to celebrate the completion of a $100,000 pledge from Stantec that supported construction of a computer-aided design lab.

The facility, known as the Stantec Computer-Aided Design Laboratory, is used in teaching construction, engineering, and manufacturing design, and for prototyping designs with the latest equipment and techniques. 

“We want to make sure that we are providing our students with the kind of high-quality education that helps ensure not only their future, but the future of Maine’s technology-intensive businesses,” said Andrew Anderson, dean of the USM College of Science, Technology, and Health.  “Stantec, through its generous gift, is an important partner in making sure that happens. We look forward to working with them in the future.”  

“It’s important to our industry that up-and-coming engineers are skilled in state-of-the-art technologies,” said Stantec Chief Operating Officer Rich Allen. “This lab provides that opportunity to USM students and we’re extremely proud to have helped make it a reality.”   

Stantec, with offices in Scarborough, Topsham and Limestone provides a wide range of services in planning, engineering, architecture, landscape architecture and environmental sciences.
