HOME DETENTION CASEWORKERS

Work in connection with social workers and juvenile probation officers. They will check in with the juveniles sentenced to these types of programs on a regular basis, at least once a day. They will, also, meet with judges, attorneys, and social workers to go over the status of their cases.

Educational Requirements

A bachelor's degree in criminology, social work, education. You may be required to have some experience in the law enforcement or human services fields, depending on the work.

POLICE SUPERVISOR

Supervises police who keep law and order, detect and prevent crimes, control traffic, and investigate criminal cases. Sets up work procedures, assigns duties, enforces discipline, trains new officers, and explains police rules. Studies assignments and determines the workers, materials and supplies needed to complete them. Prepares reports and recommends ways to improve work methods and conditions. Also may perform many of the duties of the offices they supervise.

Educational Requirements

Educational requirements may include such programs as Corrections/Correctional Administration, Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration. A bachelor's degree will not always be required for these positions, but is becoming a more common requirement.

Investigator -
Requires extensive travel, ability to work long hours, as well as occasional temporary relocation.
Qualifications: BA/BS in Criminal Justice or related major with 2.5 GPA or better.

U.S. Marshals Deputy -
The U.S. Marshals Deputy Office gives a seminar.
Qualifications: Can be found at the U.S. Marshals Deputy Office.

Border Patrol Agent
Rigorous five month training program, including Spanish language classes.
Qualifications: US Citizenship; background investigation; drug test and medical exam; valid driver's license; not have reached 37th birthday at time of appointment; have one year of qualifying experience or a bachelor's degree.

Participation in Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (V.I.C.A.) as an integral part of the Trade, Industrial, and Technical Education program is strongly recommended. Participation in Volunteer programs, working with juveniles/adolescents.
