OCCUPATIONAL POSSIBILITIES
HISTORIAN
Research, analyze, and interpret the past. They use many sources of information in their research, including government and institutional records, newspapers and other periodicals, photographs, interviews, films, and unpublished manuscripts such as personal diaries and letters. They usually specialize in a specific country or region; in a particular time period; or in a particular field, such as social, intellectual, political, or diplomatic history.
Educational
Requirements
A bachelor's degree holder has limited opportunities and in most social science occupations do not qualify for "professional" positions. It does, however, provide a suitable background for many different kinds of entry level jobs, such as research assistant, administrative aide, or management trainee. Most historians need at least a Master's degree.

ARCHIVIST
A professional archivist understand the historical context in which given records were created, how those records were used and their relationships to other sources. The variety of media on which these records are found changes along with improvements in technology and now include films, video and sound recording, computer tapes, and video and optical disks. Archivists also have duties relating to administration, management, marketing, and public relations.
Educational
Requirements
Educational requirements may include a bachelor's degree in history, public speaking and presentation skills. Organizational ability in managing your collection, supervising, staff, and structuring time for administration.

Site Manager-Historic House
Qualifications:
Must enjoy people and interact well with the public. Should have strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks. A demonstrated interest in history with a BA degree preferred.
Assistant to Director-
Work with the Mount Desert Island Historical Society. You will gain basic experience in small museum management, gain knowledge of Mount Desert Island history, work with the public, assist researchers with databases, clean and house artifacts, help with fund-raising projects, learn about the following positions: docent, educator, researcher, collections manager, curator and fund raiser.
Qualifications:Should enjoy working with the public and be intersted in preserving the heritage and protecting the scenic and historic integrity of Mount Desert Island. Should be energetic, motivated and creative. A strong interest in history desired, preferrably working towards a BA in History.
