Chris Powell holds degrees from the Universities of London and Leeds, and a Ph.D. from the University of Wales. He has held a number of lecturing posts at, for example, Sheffield and Bangor Universities, Swansea Institute (the United Kingdom) and the University of Kuopio (Finland). He teaches Criminological Theory, Reflexive Criminology, Media, Crime and Criminology, and Abolitionism. His research interests focus on issues relating to 'exclusion', 'inclusion' and 'social domination'. In addition to many articles, he has edited two books on Humour and Social Control and is currently working on another book on Police Humour. He is a member of the Steering Committee for European Group for the Study of Deviance and Social Control. Chris Powell joined the faculty at USM in 2001.
