USM Computer Science Students to Present at International Bioinformatics Conference
USM undergraduates David Gagne and Jeffrey Thompson will present their research this month at the IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine (BIBM) in Atlanta, Georgia, November 12-15, 2011.
Gagne and Thompson will each present a research poster on the work they have been doing with Dr. Clare Bates Congdon in the Department of Computer Science over the past year. Gagne's poster is entitled "A Genetic Algorithms Approach to the Inference of Cis-Regulatory Modules", and Thompson's poster is entitled "Using Genetic Algorithms for the Inference of Motifs That Are Represented In Only a Subset of Sequences of Interest".
This research has been supported by NSF CAREER grant 953492, NIH COBRE grant RR028309, Maine Economic Incentive Funds, and the EAST program for STEM students.
