Exceptions

The Core Curriculum Council has made exceptions to the general bias against prerequisites where this has been motivated by other issues. This has been particularly relevant to courses in the "D" (Quantitative Decision Making),"E" (Skills of Analysis) and "H" (Literature) categories. Most "D" courses require a minimum of two years of high school algebra and/or trigonometry and geometry. "E" courses assume that a student has completed the English Composition requirement since writing is an important facet of thinking critically. Some upper level "E" courses, e.g., SOC 210 (Critical Thinking about Social Issues) or HTY 377 (Chinese Thought) require students to have taken Intro to Sociology (SOC 101J) or Traditional East Asia (HTY 171I), respectively. Most of the "H" courses with a prerequisite require either a familiarity with a foreign language and/or English Composition.
