Most of the organizations listed below do not have headquarters in Maine; however, all provide services that can be utilized by Maine travelers with disabilities, their families and friends.

"Access-Able Travel Source" (http://access-able.com) P.O. Box 1796, Wheat Ridge, CO 80034 (303) 232-2979. Access-Able Travel Source provides information about travel with a special a special need, access guides to cities, resorts and attractions, wheelchair and scooter rentals, accessible transportation and more!

"Medical Travel, Inc.," Bocca Raton, FL (www.medicaltravel.org) (800) 778-7953: "Medical Travel Inc." is a full service, medical travel agency that caters to travelers with special needs their families and friends. It can arrange accessible cruises and land vacations for wheelchair users, persons on dialysis, persons on oxygen and more. It can also arrange family vacations for persons who are terminally ill. Medtravel also provides scooter, wheelchair, van and housing rentals. Special travel insurance arrangements can be made so that if a vacation is terminated by illness, money can be returned for the vacation days missed.

"People and Places" (www.people-and-places.org) PO Box 184, South Wales, N.Y., (716) 937-1813. This organization, which has been in business for over 20 years, provides safe, supervised vacation experiences for adults with developmental disabilities. Trips are limited to 6 to 8 persons traveling with two staff escorts. Vacations have included trips to coastal New England, New York's 1000 Islands, national parks, historic cities and more.

Society for Accessible Travel and Hospitality (SATH) (www.sath.org) 347 Fifth Ave, Suite 610, NY, NY 10016 (212) 447-7284. SATH is a nonprofit, educational organization for travelers with disabilities and professionals in the tourism industry. SATH provides travel tips for persons with specific disabilities such as kidney disease, visual impairment, speech impairment, and arthritis etc. and publishes "Open World" magazine to inform elderly and disabled travelers about travel options, access, regulations affecting disability travel and more. The web site has an extensive list of print and Internet "disability travel" resources.

"Scootaround" (www.scootaround.com) Winnipeg, Canada, (888) 441-7575: "Scootaround" is a national company that provides scooter and wheelchair rental to mobility impaired persons who are traveling for vacation or business and choose to leave their own mobility devices at home. The company serves 400 locations in the USA and will deliver devices to hotels or vacation residences on request.

"The Guided Tour, Inc." (www.guidedtour.com) Elkins Park, PA (800) 783-1370: This organization, which has been in business for over 30 years, provides professionally supervised travel and vacation programs for persons with developmental and physical challenges. Low staff traveler ratios are maintained and, a nurse accompanies most travel groups. Example destinations have included Walt Disney World, Nashville, Cruises to Nova Scotia and the Caribbean and more!

"Wheelchair Getaways" (www.wheelchair-getaways.com) Versailles, KY, (800) 642-2042: This nationwide company provides accessible vacation van rental for persons with disabilities. Travelers can arrange to have van's brought directly to specified locations such as hotels.
