Buckmasters American Deer Foundation Disabled Hunters

Although Buckmasters is not a Maine based organization, it can provide disabled Mainers, who want to hunt, with a tremendous amount of information about adapted archery and firearms equipment as well as information about hunting blinds, hunting organizations, hunting laws for the disabled, and all-terrain vehicles that can help persons with disabilities gain access to remote outdoor areas.

This online guide provides access information about parking, beaches, picnic areas, camping sites, trails, toilet facilities, phones and more. Currently two parks Crescent Beach State Park and Popham State Park are listed as providing "Beach Wheelchairs" that have wide wheels so that they can be easily moved over sand.

The "Opportunities for Enhancing fishing and Hunting for People with Disabilities" part of the department's website provides information about new regulations that enhance access to fishing, hunting, and trapping for persons with disabilties.  An application form for persons who qualify for complimentary licenses can be downloaded from the site.

 


Maine Handicapped Skiing

Maine Handicapped Skiing offers a variety of winter and summer activities for children and adults. The activities include alpine and Nordic skiing, snow boarding, canoeing, kayaking, orienteering, horseback riding and handcycling. This site provides a variety of outdoor recreation instruction modules and participation opportunities in activities such as ocean kayaking, adapted water skiing, sailing, hiking and more. The Pine Tree Society offers accessible recreation programs throughout the year as well as summer camp experiences for children and adults who have disabilities. Activities include fishing, snowmobiling, boating, camping, nature activities, crafts and more!
