Gail Wartell is the 2012 Distinguished Classified Staff Award Recipient

The Department of Conference's Gail Wartell receives USM Award

Gail Wartell of Portland is the recipient of the University of Southern Maine 2012 Distinguished Classified Staff Award, which recognizes distinguished achievement and service to the University by a member of the Classified Staff with five or more years of service to USM.

Gail, an administrative assistant in USM’s Conferences Department, was recognized for her outstanding administrative skills, ability to adapt to changing environments and, as her colleague Esther Lee-Samia says, “being a real fireball for the University and Classified Staff.” 

Gail is the designer of the online conference registration forms.  She manages to capture as much information as the organizer needs for their conference while keeping the forms as easy as possible for the attendees to fill out.   No easy task.  She also inputs the hundreds of registrations the Department of Conferences receives each year.

Gail is recognized as a dedicated, respected leader who always sees change as an opportunity to learn and grow. During her career at USM, she has demonstrated her excellent customer service skills and administrative achievement, taken on more responsibility within her union chapter and never ceased to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism.
