Alcohol Policy
The sale and service of alcoholic beverages is regulated by the Maine State Liquor Authority, the University of Southern Maine, and it's caterer, Aramark. As a licensee, Aramark is responsible for the administration of these regulations.
The only licensed area for the sale and service of these beverages is the Brooks Dining Center in Gorham. An off-premise license is required for all other locations. Please allow two weeks for the application and approval of a special day license. The cost of this license is $35.00.
Alcoholic beverages will be served to only those persons who are at least 21 years of age. The bartender has the right to refuse service to anyone who cannot produce proper identification of is not conducting themselves in an orderly fashion. No alcoholic beverages may be brought in or taken from a licensed room.
There is a minimum bar sales requirement of the following:
$100.00 for the first hour of service per bartender, $50.00 per hour per bartender for each hour after that. Example: 3 hours of service with one bartender will require a minimum of $200.00 in sales. If sales were $130.00, an additional charge of $70.00 would be charged. If the sales were $200.00 or over, no additional fee would be charged.
An open bar is paid for by the host. A cash bar will be charged on an individual basis to each guest requesting service. However, the $35.00 license fee, as well as bar sales minimums, remain the responsibility of the host.
It is Aramark's hope that the group hosting the event, together with the University of Southern Maine and USM's Police & Safety will work together to insure that the group has a save and successful event.
