Commuter Student Services
An Office of the Dean of Student Life
Our office strives to serve as a communication link and resource
to University of Southern Maine commuter students. Students who do
not live in university housing are considered to be off-campus and/or
commuting students. Addressing students unique needs as members of
the university community; providing vital programs and services;
and encouraging our students to become active members of the USM
community is key to fostering a successful college experience.
Our goals are:
- To offer information, resources and materials regarding commuter-centered issues
- To provide students with a sense of connectedness through the creation and execution of commuter specific programs
- To encourage and celebrate academic success and progress
- To educate faculty and staff about this population and enhance awareness of students needs
- To work with faculty, staff, and administrators to provide mechanisms for effective communication of information with off-campus and commuter students
- To encourage off-campus and commuter student involvement in campus-wide decision making
- To advocate for off-campus and commuter student needs and concerns
