Contact Information
Andrea Thompson McCall is the founding Director of the Office of Community Service Learning. Her work in higher education has spanned over 20 years; 17 of them at USM, but she also has experience in a community college setting and in an Ivy League institution. She holds a B.A. in philosophy and religion (Rollins College, 1974) and an M.Div. in theology (Colgate Rochester Divinity School, 1979), and serves concurrently as USM's Interfaith Chaplain. Having begun and developed the university's centralized work to institutionalize civic engagement, she draws heavily on the work of Campus Compact, having completed the Campus Compact Professional Development Institute for Community Service and Service Learning Professionals in 2006. Her love of Maine, greater Portland, and USM fuel her desire to facilitate the mutual and reciprocal benefits to the region, to the institution, and to students that are derived from community service learning.
January is National Mentoring Month!
Recruitment for Spring 2013 mentors and tutors is under way! Mentoring has demonstrated results in increased academic performance and aspirations for middle and high school students. Tutoring and homework support in after school programs supports the college aspirations of elementary, middle, and high school students in school and community based programs five days a week. The full list of programs is here; contact us now to start the application and placement process for a prompt start in the new year!
