Alicia has been the Service Learning Coordinator for USM's Office of Community Service Learning for over thre years, and prior to that, served as Multicultural Outreach Coordinator. She works with faculty and community partners to develop projects where students can put into practice what they are learning in the classroom to meet a community identified need. Alicia supports the development and delivery of new service learning courses; coordinates planning, organization and conduct of Civic Matters symposium of community based research and projects; and service learning faculty development events, including Service Learning Community of Practice. Alicia is a gradute student in USM's Master of Social Work program.
January is National Mentoring Month!
Recruitment for Spring 2013 mentors and tutors is under way! Mentoring has demonstrated results in increased academic performance and aspirations for middle and high school students. Tutoring and homework support in after school programs supports the college aspirations of elementary, middle, and high school students in school and community based programs five days a week.
