Peer Led Team Learning (PLTL)
NOTE: PLTL Groups starting up the week of 10/5
The Chemistry Department currently offers students in CHY 113/115 the
opportunity to participate in a PLTL workgroup. These workgroups consist of
8-12 students and a peer leader who has taken 113/115 recently and been
trained to facilitate PLTL group activities. Workgroups meet weekly for two
hours at a time, and work on prepared activities focusing on some topic
relevant to the lecture. The PLTL approach (http://www.pltl.org) has been implemented at several universities
in a variety of sciences.
It has been shown to enhance student learning in a manner most
students come to enjoy.
Active participation in a PLTL workgroup will improve your chemistry grade.
IMPORTANT!
Before coming to your workshop, check the appropriate schedule (below),
download the scheduled unit, print it out, and do the self-test. The
self-test problems are not trivial. Don't wait until the day before.
You will not get credit for attending the workshop unless you arrive
with a printed copy of the unit and a self-test which shows some effort.
(There is no self-test with the first unit.)
