Is Your Chemistry Section Filled?

Read and follow these instructions carefully and completely to improve your chances of enrolling in class or lab sections that are already full when you try to register.

All Chemistry sections are filled on a first-come, first served basis. Special conditions are not considered.
Section limits are based on room capacities (classes) and on safety needs (labs).

The Chemistry Department keeps waiting lists for all course sections after they are filled by open registration. To use the waiting lists,

  1. Call Rhonda Schaefer, Chemistry Administrative Associate: 780-4232. After office hours, you may leave a message.
  2. Ask to be put on a waiting list, and give the following information:
    • Your name. If you are leaving a message, spell your name, speaking clearly.
    • Complete course information, including course name, course number, instructor name, and meeting time.
    • If you are leaving a message, leave your phone number and a good time to reach you. We will not acknowledge your call, but we might call if we cannot understand any part of your message.
  3. Come to the first meeting of the class, and bring a drop-add slip (available from the Registrar and most department offices).
  4. At the first meeting, your instructor will use the waiting list to add students to the section up to the section limit.

If you call during office hours, you can also find out how many students are ahead of you on the list. If you are first or second on the list, you have a chance of getting it, but please do not depend on it. If there are more than two ahead of you, get on the list, but have an alternative plan.

IMPORTANT: Even if you are on a waiting list, watch for openings online until open registration ends (first day of semester). If a slot opens before the semester begins, grab it. We do not begin protecting slots for those on the waiting list until after open registration closes.
