What You Need For This Course
BEFORE your first lab meeing, obtain the
following items from the bookstore:
- Laboratory Handbook for General Chemistry (available from USM Bookstore)
- Splash-protective goggles
- Scientific calculator than handles scientific notation and
logarithms
You will also need USM computer and email accounts. A small amount
of required computer work can be done only in the USM computer
labs.
To read and print laboratory report forms, you will need the
latest version of Adobe
Reader.
Finally, you will need your classroom text or a comparable general
chemistry text.
Support for Students
- If you need course adaptations or accommodations because of
a disability, please inform your instructor during the first
week of the semester, after consulting with the Office of
Academic Support for Students with Disabilities, 242 Luther Bonney

- For problems with writing or study skills, make an
appointment at the Learning Center, 253 Luther Bonney

- Help is also available from the Counseling Center, 106 Payson

- Students experience difficulty in courses for a variety of
reasons. If you are having trouble with this course or feel that
you could be performing at a higher level, do not wait.

that will help you to read with more understanding and
insight.
- Carry a mental toolkit of chemistry's
most useful equations.
- Learn how to work safely in
lab.

KEEP THEM IN YOUR LAB HANDBOOK!
- Study the safety guidelines before
your first experiment!
- Look up the hazards associated with
chemicals used in the upcoming experiment.
