Our Storm Policy

Decision to Cancel: The decision to cancel classes and/or close University services, including the Child and Family Centers, will be made by the University President or a designee. The decision will be made only if snow or other weather conditions are judged sufficient to cause danger or undue hardship on the USM community.

Notification of Cancellation: Child Care parents are advised of morning or all-day closings by announcements beginning at approximately 6:30 a.m. on all area radio stations and some local television stations. If worsening weather conditions during morning hours mandate an afternoon closing, public announcements will be made in a timely fashion. Parents will be notified of a mid-or late-day closing by the Child and Family Centers staff.

The public “closed” announcement may refer only to the “University of Southern Maine”, but includes the Child and Family Centers as well.
