Accreditation

In academics, a major indicator of quality is professional accreditation. The USM College of Education and Human Development is committed to meeting the highest professional standards. The College's Teacher Preparation, Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Psychology programs have all sought, and received, this mark of distinction.


The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Southern Maine is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), 2010 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20036; phone (202) 466-7496. This accreditation covers USM's initial and advanced educator preparation programs.


The mental health counseling and school counseling specialties are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education programs (CACREP).


The rehabilitation counseling program holds accreditation from the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE).


The school psychology program is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
