Diversity Initiatives
Message from the Dean
USM’s College of Education and Human Development faculty and staff are committed to seeking a world-minded perspective in all academic and administrative activities. As a community of scholars and students, the College is committed to understanding and honoring diverse cultures and perspectives, promoting equity, and allowing minority needs and opinions to be heard. We seek to understand and respond inclusively to individuals of all backgrounds and perspectives in the interest of achieving our collective mission of reparing educators and human development professionals for responsible practice.
The CEHD commitments to inclusion, equity, and justice are reflected in the College’s core values and practices. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and dialogue, we engage actively in conversations about these commitments and their implications through different forums, such as the curriculum planning committee, admissions and retention committee, faculty development committee, and the classified and professional staff (CPS) committee.
I encourage you to participate in Dialogues on Diversity , a forum created by our Diversity Scholars. Take this opportunity to share your thoughts, ideas, and feedback on issues related to diversity and the work we do here together at USM.
Warm regards,

Betty Lou Whitford
Dean and Professor
