Each student in the course, HCE 627 Group Counseling, will be required to complete an outside practicum-based group leadership activity. This activity will be in five parts:

  • select a co-leader and write up a plan for an outside group experience (draft);
  • secure a time, place and clients (adequately screened) for your group;
  • lead the group for a minimum of ten (10) hours;
  • share your experiences with the class; and
  • engage in individual and group supervision with the instructor.

Critical incidents in group development will be discussed in class, in relation to this requirement. At the end of the semester, the instructor will complete a certification form certifying the number of hours of supervised experience as a group leader.

All HCE 627 students are required to obtain professional liability insurance prior to the start of the course and provide the program with a copy of the insurance binder by the first class meeting.
