Professor Emeritus, University of Southern Maine (1955—1989)
Dr. Arthur Berry received his Bachelor’s from Gorham State Teacher’s College, his Master’s in Education from Penn State University, and a Doctorate from the University of Connecticut. After a distinguished thirty-five year career at the University of Southern Maine as a professor, acting Dean at the School of Education, and Associate Dean at the School of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (ASET), Dr. Berry retired with the honor of Professor Emeritus from the University of Southern Maine.

Donald Berthiaume received an Associate’s degree from Southern Maine Community College, a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the USM, and Master’s degree in Classroom Teaching from USM’s College of Education and Human Development. While serving as a Biology-Biotechnology Technology teacher at Biddeford High School, he received the National Educator Award granted by the Milken Family Foundation.

While serving as Sanford Junior High School’s Principal, Brink was honored as the National Distinguished Middle Level Principal of the year by the Maine Principals’ Association.

David Chute received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine, Portland-Gorham. He taught math at Windham High School before entering a career in finance. He continued to teach first for the American Institute of Banking and later for the Northern New England Center for Financial Training, which awarded him the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award.

Melissa Hope Dunn Costello received her Bachelor’s from Gorham State Teacher’s College and her Master’s of Education and Certificate of Advanced Study at the University of Maine. After a distinguished thirty-eight year career at the University of Southern Maine as a Professor of Education, Mrs. Dunn Costello retired with the honor of Professor Emerita from the University of Southern Maine.

a Professor, Matthews retired with the honor of Associate Professor Emerita from the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

While serving as a teacher in Chemistry at Turpin High School in Cincinnati, Spurlock was honored as the Cincinnati Area Chemistry Teacher of the Year granted by the Cincinnati Section of the American Chemical Society.

John “Jack” Sutton received his A.B. in Math from Boston College, his M.S. in Education from the University of Maine at Portland-Gorham in 1972, and his doctorate in Education from the University of Maine in 1976. After a distinguished twenty-six year career in counseling, Dr. Sutton retired from USM with the honor of Professor Emeritus.

Dr. Frederick Welch received his Bachelor’s from Gorham State Teachers College, Master’s in Education from the University of Maine, and a Doctorate in Education from Pennsylvania State University.
While serving as the Cooperative Vocational Education Coordinator at Portland High School, Welch was honored as Maine’s Outstanding Young Educator, an award sponsored by the Jaycees and World Book Encyclopedia.
