Research and Teaching Assistantships

Students in both the M.S. and Psy.D. programs in school psychology are eligible for research assistantships.  Known as Graduate Assistants (GA), selected students work with a range of faculty members assisting with research, program needs, and community outreach.  Psy.D. student are also eligible to be Teaching Assistants (TA).  There are two TA positions in the school psychology program.  The TA's teach introductory master's level school psychology classes under the supervision of a school psychology faculty member.

Compensation

There is a set pay level for all University-funded assistantships.  It is paid according to two assistantship levels based on the number of hours worked in a week. For the 2008-2009 academic year those amounts are

  • 10 hours/week = $4,500 per academic year
  • 20 hours/week = $9,000 per academic year

In addition, the GA/TA students are provided with a tuition waiver for certain portions of their tuition costs as follows:

  • 10 hours + /week = 9 credits of tuition waiver
  • 20 hours/week = 18 credits of tuition waived

Applications for assistantships are available no later than 2 January each year.  The application is available from the College of Education and Human Development office and website.
