Explanation of New School Psychology Course Prefix System

Starting in Summer 2006, the School Psychology program began utilizing a new course prefix system. The new course prefix (3 letter code before a course number) for all School Psychology program courses is SPY.  For the M.S. program the new prefix simply replaces the old prefix which was HRD.  The actual course numbers in the M.S. program did not change.  For example a course previously known as HRD 609 is now SPY 609.  For the Psy.D. program some course numbers did change as well.  Three new courses were added in 2006 also, and those new classes have the new SPY prefix. A summary of the old and new course prefixes and numbers for all School Psychology program courses is found in the table below.

For all students, the prefix in effect when the course was offered will appear on the transcript.  For those students who entered the program during this prefix change, there will be a combination of HRD and SPY prefixes shown on the transcript.  The School Psychology program and USM registrar's office can provide a letter of explanation to accompany any transcript with a combination of course prefixes for those students who request it.
