In academics, a major indicator of quality is professional accreditation. The USM College of Education and Human Development is committed to meeting the highest professional standards. The College's Teacher Preparation, Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Psychology programs have all sought, and received, this mark of distinction.


The College of Education and Human Development at the University of Southern Maine is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council. TEAC covers the following programs: Art Education; CLASS; Counselor Education; Educational Leadership; Literacy; Music Education; School Psychology; and the Teacher Education Programs (TEAMS and ETEP).  The period of approval is from summer 2009 through summer 2014.


The mental health counseling and school counseling specialties are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education programs (CACREP).


The rehabilitation counseling program holds accreditation from the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE).


The school psychology program is accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
