Early Language and Literacy Certificate of Graduate Study
New Certificate Program for Early Childhood Educators!
The graduate program in Literacy Education at USM is pleased to offer a graduate level certificate program in Early Language and Literacy beginning in Fall 2007.
This four course sequence will provide students with a thorough understanding of the development of early language and concepts that are foundational to understanding and using printed language. Those who complete the certificate program will be able to design early care and preschool curricula to effectively implement strategies to foster this development in all children, ages 0-5, and will be able to coach others in these strategies and practices. The program was developed in collaboration with the Muskie School’s Cutler Institute for Child and Family Policy, and will consist of the following courses:
EDU 516: Early Care and Education Policy
EDU 517: Early Language and Literacy Learning
EDU 518: Using Literature to Support Learning in Young Children
EDU 519: Early Language and Literacy Curriculum and Instructional Design
