Summer Registration
To maximize your chance of getting a seat in a class, plan to register as early as possible. Many courses fill up quickly. Also, register early to be sure your courses run!
Course Search has the summer 2008 semester courses. To see what is offered go to:
http://usm.maine.edu/reg/dsis/
and select your course prefix.
REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1: BEFORE YOU CALL: Choose the course(s) you wish to take. The Course Schedule is available on-line (www.usm.maine.edu/reg/dsis). Every course has a "CRN" or Course Registration Number that identifies the course in the USM computer system. This is the number you will need when you are ready to register for the course. Have alternate selections in case your first choices are not available. Matriculated students are given first priority to register during the Advanced Registration period. This period usually lasts for the first two weeks of registration.
Step 2: REGISTER! You may register in person at the Registrar's Office at 113 Corthell Hall (Gorham) or at 119 Payson Smith Hall ( Portland), or by the university's automated telephone system known as "IVR." IVR allows students to obtain information from their academic records easily and is a good system to understand. To use IVR, follow these instructions after checking online to make sure the course you want still has seats available.
1. Dial (207) 780-5800.
2. Select "Registration" from the menu.
3. Select the semester for which you are registering.
4. Enter your nine-digit student identification number (this is your social security number unless you specifically requested otherwise).
5. Enter your PIN. Your PIN will be your six-digit birth date until you change it. Enter your birth date in MMDDYY format.
6. Some colleges will require a RAN (Registration Authorization Number). You will NOT be required to enter such a number for graduate courses.
7. Add and drop courses, using the CRNs, until you are satisfied with your schedule. Some courses (e.g. internship) are listed as variable credits. Be sure to enter the correct number of credit hours desired for variable credit courses.
8. Play back your schedule to make sure it is correct.
9. Except during pre-registration (when you will be billed), make payment using a credit card. Your registration may be automatically canceled by the IVR system if payment is not made at the end of the call.
10. The IVR system is available 24 hours a day. Sunday access may or may not be available depending on system maintenance. Press * at any time to "escape," but remember to check to see if your last request was processed.
11. If you have any difficulties, call the Registrar's Office at 780-5230 or your program office.
