ETEP and TEAMS lead to the Master’s of Science in Education degree. For most students, the program will be the Master’s in Teaching and Learning (MTL).
Master’s in Teaching and Learning (MTL)
- TEAMS and ETEP 9-Month Option: Upon successful completion of the internship year, including all coursework and assessments, students are invited to continue to work toward completion of the master’s degree. This induction-support feature extends teacher education beyond initial certification as beginning teachers continue to develop their knowledge and skills. The 13 credits required for completion of the master's degree are scheduled during the summer and on Saturdays during the academic year.
- TEAMS Unified and ETEP Elementary Unified Options (K-8): The master’s degree is granted upon successful completion of the two internship years, including all coursework and assessments.
- ETEP Secondary Unified Option (7-12): Upon successful completion of the two internship years, including all coursework and assessments, students take 6 more credit hours to complete the master’s degree.
- ETEP Special Education Option: The master’s degree is granted upon successful completion of the coursework, internship, and assessments.
Applied Literacy
TEAMS and ETEP 9-Month Option: Upon successful completion of the internship year, including all coursework and assessments, students can complete the 18 (elementary) to 21 (middle/secondary) credits required for the master’s degree with a concentration in applied literacy. Certification as a literacy specialist requires 12 additional credits beyond the degree, and endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) requires 9 additional credits beyond the degree. Students must complete an application to the Applied Literacy program if they want to pursue this option.
Other Degree Options
Students completing the internship year(s) of TEAMS and ETEP also have the option of applying to the educational leadership or literacy education (including ESL) programs in the College. Students must apply using the Application for Admission to Graduate Study application and meet all admission requirements specific to the desired program and will be required to complete degree requirements by a deadline determined by program faculty. Certain courses completed during the certification year of ETEP may be accepted as credit toward completion of requirements for these degrees. Students need to review the transfer policy and admission policies for the intended program. In all cases, completion of these programs will require a greater number of credits than the masters in teaching and learning or applied literacy.
