The Professional Educator program is a master of science in education degree that is designed for teachers who want to focus on classroom teaching and to pursue a master’s degree that best fits their particular interests and needs.
The Professional Educator program is a cross-department program that allows students to choose from multiple and diverse academic offerings that focus on teaching, learning, and assessment.
Program Requirements
The Professional Educator program requires 36 credit hours of coursework. Students take courses from a foundation core and an academic core that focuses on curriculum, teaching and assessment. Students then complete a concentration of their choice. A capstone completes the program.
Getting Started
The Professional Educator program allows prospective students to pursue up to six credits of its courses before applying for admission. Please note that successful completion of courses under non-degree (“non-matriculated”) student status does not guarantee admission to a graduate program. For a complete listing of transfer course policies, registration instructions, and current USM course offerings and availability, see the Web page for non-matriculated students at www.usm.maine.edu/cehd/prospective-students/nondegree.htm
