Certificate Program in Mediation |

This program introduces you to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and the process and skills of mediation. It provides 40 hours of training, which is a state and national standard for entry-level mediators. The course is designed for individuals who are interested in mediating or applying the process of mediation to their profession or in their workplace. Previous participants include business people, attorneys, government staff and administrators, educators, counselors, team leaders, human resource professionals, therapists, realtors, and municipal officials. Course work will address:
The program is highly interactive and relies on demonstration, simulations, and role-playing. The fifth day of the training is a full-day mediation simulation with actors that allows participants to practice new skills while receiving critique and support for their work. One day of the program will also include a luncheon discussion with several practicing mediators to give participants the opportunity to learn more about ADR in Maine.

Jacqueline Clark, M.P.A., is one of the most experienced mediators in Maine and brings that history to this training program. Her work is based on the belief that conflict is an opportunity for change and creativity. She is considered an expert in training mediators to understand and work appropriately when domestic violence may be an issue. She serves as mediator and regional coordinator for Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Services (CADRES) providing supervision and support to court mediators.
